Vintage Blacon

We are a faith based partnership working to help improve the lives of the older members of the community in Blacon, Chester

All at United Reform Church unless otherwise stated.

Indoor ‘Short mat’ Bowls sessionsCURRENTLY CLOSED

Held weekly on Tuesday afternoons starting at 2.00pm.

Cost is £3.00 incl refreshments.

 

Health walks

In conjunction with Western Avenue Medical Centre, and other partners, will operate a weekly health walk on Mondays and Thursdays starting from Blacon URC.

Walkers to meet at Blacon URC at 10.15 am.  

Walks leave at 10.30 am along varied routes to suit different abilities, finishing with refreshments back at the URC.

 

Silver ScreenCURRENTLY CLOSED

Films are shown on the 1st Tuesday of the Month unless otherwise advertised in Vintage Blacon Messenger. Over the Autumn and Winter seasons, watch out for additional showings mid-month. join (donations towards refreshments and other expenses are welcome).

 

Knit and Natter

This group exists to knit clothing and other goods to send to people in need.  Enjoy knitting for a worthy cause and the company whist doing so.

Every Wednesday 10 to 12

The cost is £1.50 per week for refreshments, and to cover the church’s heating and lighting costs (URChurch)

  • Walking Football

Meets weekly This is operated by Chester Football Club Community Trust Whilst aimed at over 50’s, men and women of all ages and abilities are welcome on a Monday.

  • Mental Health and Wellbeing Football

Chester FC Mental Health & Wellbeing Football supports men and women who have experienced a mental health problem.
Weekly football sessions run in Chester and Ellesmere Port with two teams representing Chester FC competes in the Cheshire Ability Counts Football League with participants invited to attend Chester FC matches as a reward for their involvement in the project

  • PAN – Disability Football

Better together

This group is designed for people who want a place to come together and discuss how they can help improve their own and help support others health & wellbeing. Games, quizzes and a chance to sit and come together with a supportive group

All ages are welcome.

Meet at the United Reform Church Blacon every Thursday 10am -12noon.

Also in Storyhouse Chester every Monday 10:30 to 12:30.

For families of children with an autism spectrum disorder.

Meets every Monday 9:30—11:30

Where: Blacon United Reform Church on Saughall Road (entrance through the side gate)

Cost: £1—entry includes bottomless drink and a slice of toast.

Here and Now Chester Ltd (Bright Life Project)

Here and Now is a social enterprise based in Blacon. It aims to bring socially isolated people together in a friendly and relaxed environment for older people.

 

  • Social Activity Group

Our mission is to provide our members with the opportunity for friendship and various activities in a safe environment, helping to prevent feelings of loneliness and isolation. Meet Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Helping the older members of the Blacon community to get confidence with using technology.

Blacon History Group

In Spring 2019 the two remaining members of the Group were challenged to revisit Blacon’s history but this time to recapture it digitally for posterity.

We have an active Facebook group and continue to educate & interact with the community about the history of Blacon. Come and join us, find us on Facebook or the website and on our YouTube channel.

Volunteers from Vintage Blacon and the Cleaner Safer Greener Group continue to work with The Arches Primary School to create exciting plans for the Hope Community Garden. Men in Sheds

Provides a place where people can go to get involved in a number of craft activities.  Woodworking, gardening, DIY and using your hands, generally. A cup of tea or coffee and a chat is usually involved as well.

Blacon Butterflies WI

Meeting Time: 1st  Wednesday of month at 6.45pm ,United Reformed Church, 121 Saughall Road, Blacon, CH1 5ET

The Women’s Institute provides women with the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.

The WI is a charitable organisation based on the ideals of fellowship, truth, tolerance and justice.

Avenue Services have a programme of activities every week at the Enterprise Centre and Library.

 

Chester Adult Phab (People Have ABilities)

Chester Adult Phab is an independent charity (affiliated to National Phab) and social club for people with and without disabilities.  They provide unique social activities, accessible to all.

Meetings take place on the second Monday of every month (excluding December), 7.00pm to 10.00pmThey meet at The Little Owl, Gawer Park, Chester, CH1 4DA.

Their monthly socials are a great way to find out about events and activities and meet like-minded people.  They welcome everybody and are a friendly club.  New members are welcome.

Cost: Membership subsidy of £1 per member, payable during attendance at each monthly social – volunteers are free of charge at socials.

New members do not pay a subsidy at their first social.
