Platform for Life provides a valuable service in the local communities we work in. We give low income families struggling with poor mental health access to a counselling service which is local to them, available quickly and easily, flexible to their needs and free of charge. Demand for our service is high and growing every month and as a result so are our costs. Without continuous and increased levels of funding, our waiting times start to extend and families end up waiting much longer to get the help they need to address their poor mental health. This not only negatively impacts them but also their family and the community they’re a part of.
We receive no statutory funding and are supported by grants from charitable foundations and trusts, businesses and by individual fundraising activities. Every £3000 we raise or secure, pays for one weekly counselling session over 12 months and means we can directly help up to 4 clients, and indirectly a further 3-4 members of their family as well as the communities they’re a part of.
We’ve been called a ‘priceless resource’ and without our service most low income families won’t get the support they need to address their mental health issues, build stronger relationships and benefit from improved life chances.
There’s lots of different ways you can support us in our work and make a real difference to low income families struggling with poor mental health.
